BASIC WAGE INQUIRY
ROYAL COMMISSION LABOUR PARTY REQUEST CANBERRA, May 13. The Federal executive ot the Australian Labour Party has decided lo ask the Government to appoint a Royal Commission to inquire into the computing and fixing of the basic wage. The executive, which is meeting in Canberra, also decided to confer with the Prime Minister, Mr. J. B. Chifley, on the case for the introduction of a simplified method of assessing income tax, the exemption of overtime earnings from income tax, the removal of indirect taxation on consumer goods, the introduction ot the 40-hour week for Government employees, and the extension of full citizenship rights to aborigines.
