HAWKE’S BAY CROPS

MARKET GARDEN PRODUCE (P.A.) HASTINGS, May 23. Tiie total market garden acreage under crop in Hawke's Bay lias remained fairly static despite the loss of wartime contracts. While some areas have been cleaned up and put back into grass, other new areas have been opened up to compensate. It is estimated that there arc stilt about 2700 acres under crop for commercial purposes in Hawke's Bay. That there has been little change in the total area is taken partly as a reflection of new- markets which have bcc-n opened up to Hawke's Bay produce. principally in Wellington. On the other hand, some growers have rearranged their cropping programmes so as to enter Ihe cannery trade.
