VALEDICTORY

MR. J. 3. STRAWBRIDGE Complimentary speeches were numerous when staff members of the Lands and Survey Department and others met on .Monday to farewell Mr. J. S. Strawbridge, who was for about lfi years a member of (he staff and who is on transfer to New Plymouth. Speakers who paid tribute to Mr. Strawbridge's popularity over the years included the new commissioner of Crown lands. .Mr. E. P. Wakelin. the retired commissioner. Mr. J. P. Lane, the resident engineer, Mr. E. W. McEnnis. who also spoke on behalf of the catchment board. Mr. E. Glanville, who represented outside surveyors, Mr. G. Frank, for the surveying department of the office, and Mr. C. G. Mciklcjohn, for the clerical side. The presentation comprised n fountain pen to Mr. Slrawbridge and a set of crystal goblets to Mrs. Slrawbridge. the former making a suitable reply and offering thanks for the expressions of goodwill which had been extended to him.
