WEDDINGS POSTPONED
INFLUENZA IN TONGA MARRIAGE OF ROYALTY (P.A.) AUCKLAND, May 28. An outbreak of influenza in Tonga is responsible for the postponement of the Royal weddings until June 10, according to advice received from Nukualofa. The report states that hundreds of people at Vavau, and at least 5000 persons in Tongatabu are confined to their beds, but a representative of the New Zealand agents of the Tonsan Government said it was only a mild outbreak and could not be termed an epidemic. One report says the Tongan people believe that the failure of their authorities to place the Union Steam Ship Company’s motor-vessel Matua under quarantine at Vavau and Nukualofa after her arrival from Apia is responsible for the introduction of the disease.
