LONG JOURNEY TO N.Z.
DETERMINED NEW SETTLERS ROSY REPORTS ABROAD (P.A.) AUCKLAND. May 26. Five ex-servicemen from the United Kingdom came ashore from the vessel Marine Phoenix today in brilliant sunshine. For them it was the conclusion ot an odyssey. New Zealand had beckoned to them from austerely living Britain. There were transport difficulties, but the rosy promises in this Dominion were so strong that each man made a long, circuitous journey to reach tlie land of his dreams. The most determined was a voyager who first went to Sweden, secured a berth on a ship for New York, crossed i he United States bv train, and boarded the Marine Phoenix at San Francisco. "It took me two months and cost a lot of money, but it will be worth it if New Zealand is ns good as I have heard,” he said.
