BUS SMASH INJURED
CONDITION STILL SERIOUS LARGE TANGI AT NUHAKA (S R ) WAIROA. May 27. The condition of those injured in the bus accident at Whakaki on Saturday was reported late yesterday afternoon to be unchanged. The hockey tournament on Saturday was not postponed because of the accident, but two minutes’ silence as a mark of respect was observed. Some teams from the Nuhaka area forfeited their games rather than play. These who did participate were obviously distressed, this being reflected in the lower standard of play witnessed. The high casualty list of the accident will probably mean that Nuhaka will not have any games in competition this season, which will make a tremendous impression on Wairoa hockey generally. which is regretted, for the country club possessed some outstanding players, among the best being the late Miss Brenda Carey who had gained representative honours in South Island teams. The tangi is still in progress at Nuhaka, where the largest number of Maoris seen for years are assembled.
