SPEEDY MARRIAGES
U.S. NAVAL TOURISTS QUICK WOOING IN SYDNEY (11.30 a.m.) SYDNEY, May 27. Two more American sailors married Sydney girls in the few hours left before the United Slates Navy Task Force 38 leaves Sydney this afternoon. One couple aged 19 met for the first time in King’s Cross Hotel just a week before their marriage. The other couple in which the groom is 19 and the bride 20 met when she visited his ship eight days ago. “My stars last week told me something unusual would happen. I guess this is it,” is the classic under-statement by the mother of one of the girls. Some romances are the result of wartime friendships, but in other cases couples are prepared to risk their future on three or four days’ acquaintance.
