80th BIRTHDAY
QUEEN MARY CROWDS AT PALACE BIRTHDAY WITH FAMILY (10.30 a.m.) LONDON, May 26 Telegrams and messages of congratulations from early today began to arrive at Marlborough House for Queen Mary who celebratc-s her eightioi'n birthday today. Queen Mary read them rill herself. A dense crowd of people who had waited five hours outside Buckingham Palace today called: "We want Queen Mary.” When Her Majesty appeared on the balcony with other members of the Royal Family the crown sang: Happy Birthday to You.” The Royal House Artillery at noon fired - salute
Thirty-one members of the Royal Family celebrated the birthday with a luncheon. The King, Queen and Princesses arrived at the palace during the morning from the Royal Lodge, Windsor, where they spent the week-end. The Duke and Duchess of Gloucester, Lord and Lady Mountbatten, and Lieutenant Fhilip Mountbatten were among those present. , , , Queen Mary is spending the rest of the day quietly with members of her family. The Duke of Windsor sapnt three-quarters of an hour this morning with Queen Mary.
