FIRST RACE OF SEASON GISBORNE Y.M.C.A. CLUB Leading the field throughout a sealed handicap race of 4| miles conducted on Saturday bv the Gisborne Y.M.C.A. Harrier Club, J. Sloan won by 50yds and lowered the previous_ record by ITscc. Sloan’s time was 25min. llsec.. comoared with the record of 25min. 2Ssec„ standing to the credit of R. Wilson. The race was the club's first contest of the season and drew a field of 17. The course led front the Y.M.C.A.. past the wharves to Kaiti Bench, across the hill into Beach road and back to the starting point via Wainui road and Rutene road.
