JAPAN’S NEW PREMIER
CHRISTIAN LEADER GEN. MACARTHUR’S VIEWS (10 a.m.) TOKYO, May 25. General MacArtlmr. commenting on the election of Tetsu Katayama as Japan's Premier, said the appointment emphasised the middle-of-the-road course of Japanese internal politics, showing how far Japan had progressed on the' way to free government. "For the first time, Japan is lead by a Christian who, throughout his life, lias been a member of the Presbyterian Church. This reflects complete religious tolerance which now dominates the Japanese mind and the complete religious freedom which exists throughout this land.”
