WAIKOHU JUNIORS

SCHOOL COMBINATION

An attractive curtain-raiser to the representative game on the Te Karaka ground on Saturday was provided by teams from the junior division competition of the Waikohu Rugby Sub-union. The Te Karaka High School fifteen defeated Whatatutu by 12 points to nil, though the losers had a better share of the play territorially than the score indicated.

With the forwards well matched the combination maintained among the School backs proved the deciding factor. They showed more enterprise in attack and a better appreciation of backing-up tactics in defence. Despite the difficult conditions imposed by the sodden ground and slippery ball, they kept a good pace and showed a pleasing standard in fielding and passing. The School five-eighth, Ruru, was notable for sure handling. The wing-three-quarter, B. Currie, scored two tries and the forward, D. Barr, one, while the centre-three-quarter,_ D. Hollis, converted a penalty. Prominent players for Whatatutu were the wing-three-quarters, Atkins and Hutu, in the backs and Fisher and Huhu in the forwards. Mr. T. Mitchell was the referee.
