JUNIOR MATCHES
SCHOOL’S BIG MARGIN CELTICS NARROW WIN Four junior games were played on Saturday in the Poverty Bay Rugby Union's competition. Conditions on all grounds were greasy, while heavy rain showers helped to make conditions more unpleasant. The ball was slippery, and in three of the games the scoring was kept low, but in the match on the High School ground, between High School and Kiwis, the students had a run-away win by 41 points to nil. The H. 5.0.8. (A) v. Old Boys (A) match was played on the Oval No. 1 ground as a curtain raiser to the main match between the Rest and Ngatapa sub-union. Although H. 5.0.8. won the match, the Old Boys put up a good defence. The final score was six points to nil. The two scorers for the H. 5.0.8. team were Whitton, a penalty, and Lunken. an unconverted try. The H. 5.0.8. (B) team was also successful in defeating the Old Boys (B) team, their advantage being seven points to nil. J. White did all the scoring in this game, potting a field goal and going over the line for a try. There was only one score in the Celtic v. Y.M.P. game, this being a penalty goal, kicked by Sheehan for Celtic. Although they played a hard game, Y.M.P. did not open their scoring. W. Bignell was the chief scorer of the High School team's 41 points against Kiwis. He scored three tries, and Nikora. Grace, Whaitiri and Jones two tries, each. Bignell also converted three tries and Jones one.
