VENERABLE CHORISTER
died before evensongLONDON, April 6. St Paul's oldest chorister, 94-year-old Henry Dutton, failed to fulfil his intention to sing evensong today as his farewell to the choir, of which he was a member for 70 years. Mr. Dutton, as a “foundation chorister,” did not retire at the age of 60, as others did. A rosy-cheeked, silver-haired bachelor, Mr. Dutton lived alone, and did his own shopping, but his real home was in St'. Paul’s, to which he travelled live days a week and twice on Sundays for many years—even through the blitz and the recent freeze. He announced that he would resign after Easier because his. “legs were not as strong as they used to be.” He became ill during the week and was taken to hospital, where he fought for life, hoping to keep his last singing appointment.
