PARLIAMENT’S WORK BUDGET DEBATE TUESDAY (P.R.) ’WELLINGTON, June 5. ' Three bills —the External Affairs, Island Territories, and Patents Designs and Trade Marks Amendment—were put -through all. stages by the House of Representatives yesterday. The House adjourned at a.lO P- m - l,n " til 7.;)0 p.m. on Tuesday, when the Loader" of the Opposition, Mr._ S. G. Holland, will open the financial .debate. . , , . The Patents Bill was introduced in March and referred to the Statutes Revision Committee. Its main purpose is to incorporate into New Zealand law modifications made in Great Britain to meet war conditions. There was one minor amendment to Ihe External Affairs Bill, winch deals with' the ••administration of New Zealand interests overseas. The amendment was to make clear the imw.mti of tlie clause relating to Hie .-mperanuuatiou payments of officers appointed to positions overseas. _ An amendment moved in the comm il too stage, by Mr. AV. .1. l’.roadfoot, for Ihe Opposition, seeking to bring tno appoint, jneiit of officers to assist t-ver--eu.F Tgprj'eerifntives under the - control ef the i’ul'dic Service Gommis•,loner, instead of under the Mi’usi.er, was defeated on the voices.
Moving the second reading of ilio Island Territories Bill, (lie Prune Minister, the Ut. Hon. P. Fraser, said that the measure was a necessary corollary, of - the External Affairs Bill and concerned the administration of Cook Island and Western Samoa. The Leader of the Opposition, Mr. >S. G. Holland, agreed that the bill was one to which nobody would take exception."
