BID TO LEAVE JOB
‘ACTION OF BLACKGUARD’ (P.A.) AUCKLAND, June 5. The first ease of its kind in the Auckland district was heard when Desmond Robert Brttce Sheerer, aged 18, appeared in the Police Court before Mr. F. H. Levien, S.M., on a charge of behaving toward his employer, New Zealand Products, Ltd., in an insulting, embarrassing or offensive manner with intent to induce his employer to take steps for the termination of his employment. The assistant district man-power officer, Mr. T. G. Fielder, prosecuted, and the defendant pleaded guilty. The defendant had been employed at tomato pulping and had worked satisfactorily until recently when he made two attempts to leave the industry, said Mr. Fielder. He . then told his foreman that he was going to get away by hook or by crook, and used obscene language in front of a woman employee. He had been suspended and was now in another industry. The defendant said he had lost his head.
Describing the defendant's action as that of a blackguard, the magistrate fined him £7 10s.
