CAMP RELEASE
TRUCK DRIVERS CARTAGE OF WOOL One appeal against general, Service and four for the release from camp of truck drivers, lodged by Amalgamated Transport, Limited,-; were heard at to-clay's-sitting of. the Gisborne Armed Forces Appeal Board. Supporting fhe appeals, Mr. D. E. Chrisp said that the appellant company.. was..desirous..Pi. procuring... the services of its experienced ...drivers, as a bad driver was .uneconomical. In addition, there was the.wear.on tyres to, be considered. The men were required for shifting stock .and. woolcarrying. Wool had to be carted to town direct from .the press.. At present there were only nine drivers left with the company.. . u. Evidence was submitted by W..Newcombe, transport operator of Amalgamated Transport, Linjnfed, and W. G. Sherratt, chairman of the East CPast Primary Production Council, who said that very few sheds', in the district. could store a whole clip, and therefore the wool had to be transported straight from the -press. Regarding lambs; he considered they should all be carried by trucks on distances over five rhilbs., : . A sine die adjournment, the reservist to stay in. the .L.O.C.M.T. was made irl'J. Newton’s case,.leave from camp to March 31 wasrecommended, in the cases of J. King and V/. Kelso, and the appeals for ,J. M. Newcombe and H. Walker \vere, dismissed. : -• .. G, W. Milne applied for the, release from camp of T. W, Mi,lne, farm hand. Mr. A. A. Whitehead stud m support that the appellant was the reservist’s father. He was .in illhealth and required the reservist to assist him on .192 acres, ' Mr. W.. _G. Sherratt supported the appeal.;— Indefinite leave was recommended, the reservist to join the Horne Guard.
