At a public meeting which followed a civic welcome, the new .president, the Rev. F. A. Parry, Gisborne,, was inducted to the presidential office of the Baptist . Union and Missionary Society of New . Zealand. Mix Parry delivered the presidential. address ■on the subject, “The Church For Our Times,” during the course of which he emphasised the pressing need that the church pursue her essential task of evangelism as the only means of bringing individual, social and national redefnption to mankind., Comparing New Zealand with the England of Wesley’s day, he affirmed that-as the evangelical revival saved England then, so the message of Calvary alone could save otir country and our youth. The Assembly will continue until Wednesday, during which period special stress will be placed on the task of the church in these days of international danger aricl conflict. Celebrations in connection with the 150th anniversary of the formation of the Baptist Missionary Society will bo observed. ■ ■
