The Wairoa County Council has received advice that the Department of Agriculture has granted 'as a free grant £I2OO for the present season for noxious weeds. The Wafroa County clerk, Mr. B. C. Signal!, has been granted three months’ leave and during his nbsencc- Mr. I. C. Moore will act as county clerk.—The wedding takes place at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Wairoa, on Thursday next of a very popular young couple in the persons of Mr. N. (Bunny) Smith, son of Mr. and Mrs. A. G. Smith, and Miss Pauline Bretherton, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. G. Bretherton, The Heads. , , . . At the social evening on Wednesday night tendered Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Duley by members of their family there were over 400 present, and the Mayor, Mr. H. !•». Harkei* in making n presentation of a handsome cheque to Mr. and Mrs. Duley, extended hearty congratulations to them on being the first known couple to celebrate their diamona wedding in the history of Wairoa.
