NEW RATION BOOKS

ISSUE ON MONDAY GISBORNE ARRANGEMENTS PROCEDURE FOR SUGAR The issue of new ration books for the second half of the rationing year will be commenced on Monday, six weeks earlier than originally scheduled. A temporary office on the first floor of the Chief Post Office, Gisborne, will be open from 9 a.m. to 5.45 p.m., Mondays to Fridays, and 9 a.m. to noon on Saturdays. In addition, the postal counter wilt be open from 7 p.m. to 8.30 p.m. Mondays to Fridays. The office will not be open on Saturday evenings. To obtain new ration books, holders of current rations books are to make application by writing their names and addresses in ink in block letters or. the counterfoil of the “O” sheet of coupons in the current book. In regard to children of the age of 16 years and under, the date of birth must be shown in the space provided for the retailer's name and address. The counterfoil only ol’ the "O” sheet of coupons is to be removed and presented with the appropriate ration book. The sheet of “O” coupons is not to be removed as these are to be used later for clothing coupons.

The public is asked to make early application for the books in order to reduce the congestion at the counter during the last week of the month. For the second half of the rationing year, the “O” coupons are to be used for clothing and footwear. “M” coupons from the first book can be carried over for use till the end of May next in conjunction with the “O” coupons in the second ration book.

Sugar coupons, for which the registration of consumers is required, will be cancelled, instead of being cut out, as has been the past practice, after the issue of the new books. Under this system, each retailer is placed on a quota based on the number of regis, tered customers on his sugar list. Cancellation can be carried out by the retailer in ink, by rubber stamp, or the method best suited to his business. This also will apply to large residential establishments such as hotels, which deal direct with wholesalers. From November 1 the numbers of tea and sugar coupons will be brought into agreement and in this connection, lea coupons 21—26 have been declared void.
