DAMAGE TO ROADS

HEAVY ARMY TRAFFIC MAINTENANCE PLANS (P.R.) WELLINGTON, this day. Heavy military traffic in parts of New Zealand has caused damage to roads, and concern has been shown by ebririty councils as these highways have fallen back from the usual standard of maintenance. When this point was mentioned to-day to the Hon. 11. T. Armstrong, Minister of Public Works, he stated that steps were being taken to deal with the problem, the Government having, made available sufficient funds from the war expenses account. to maintain certain county roads in military areas and certain main arid State highways up to a suitable standard to carry the extra traffic due to military requirements.
