FIRM SHEEP RATES
HASTINGS STOCK SALE (S.R.) HASTINGS, this day. At the' Stortford Lodge stock sale yesterday the store sheep section was particularly active with a yarding of 3000, comprising ewes with lambs, hoggets and shorn wethers. A strong feature was a draft of 537 shorn four-toflth wethers in extra forward order which made 275. . The selling of hoggets was firm on last week's rates. Good wether hoggets made 28s Id, with smaller sheep from 23s lOd upwards. Medium grown ewe hoggets brought 29s 6d and well woolled ewes, with very forward Southdown cross lambs, made 18s to 19s. all counted. Light conditioned aged ewes, shorn, with Romney lambs, realised 9s to 9s 7d. In the fat pens, spring lambs ranged from 30s 4d to 35s Id, prime shorn ewes to 17s 6d and unshorn to 27s lOd. Of 500 store cattle, medium three-year dehorned Hereford steers made £9 13s, twoyear steers £8 12s 6d to £8 16s, yearling steers from Waikari £6 Is and others to £6 15s, yearling Hereford heifers £2 17s and two-year P.A. heifers £6 19s.
In the beef pens, heifers were in large numbers to sell at slightly easier values, but otherwise there was little change from last week. Prime ox sold to £l6 6s, a heavy heifer scaling at over. SOOlb. £l2 16s, and heavy young cows to £ll Is. ■
