At the City Band’s patriotic concert on Sunday night amongst the marches played was “Eagles of the Air,” composed by Mrs. Douglas Blair, Gisborne, and. Mr. J. J. .Stroud. Christchurch', .It is dedicated to the Allied airmen, of the world.

TARUHERU LADIES’ SOCIAL CLUB • Honours-were-secured-by Mrs- Heaslip and Mr. B. Isabeth at the fortnightly progressive five-hundred party held by ’ the Taruheru Ladies’ Social. Club, at. the home of Mr. and Mrs.‘, R. H. Biggar, Cameron road, on Tuesday. night. Winners were Miss R. McColl and Mr. B. Whytfe. Eight tables were requisitioned, and the games were efficiently supervised by Mr. Biggar. A delicious supper was served and later dancing was enjoyed.to music contributed by Mr. J. Davis. FIRESIDE TALK At the fortnightly meeting of the Gisborne Business and Professional Women’s Club, hpld in Le Grand Cafe on Tuesday night, the members busily engaged in patriotic knitting, sat. round a large fire and listened with intense pleasure to a talk on pre-war Holland. given by Mrs. G. F. Barnwell. The speaker, who lived for a number of years in Holland, dealt with the history of the country, the life of its people, and its industries.

The appreciation of the members was shown in a warm vote of thanks to Mrs. Barnwell. ST. JOHN’S LADIES’ GUILD At the monthly meeting of St. John’s Anglican Ladies’ Guild held in St. John's Church, Mangapapa on Tuesday afternoon, Mrs. A. V. Clare presided over a good attendance of members. Votes of sympathy were passed with Mrs. R. C. Willis and family and Miss W. Lysnar in their recent bereavements. ■An invitation to members to attend n social afternoon, which the Te Hapara Ladies’ Guild is sponsoring on November 17, was accepted. A competition was won by Mrs. Smaillie. The meeting concluded with a successful “bring and buy,” the attractive wares finding a ready sale under the direction of Mesdames Henderson and L. A. Steed. Afternoon tea was served by Mesdames Elliott and C. 11. Ferris. SIXTY YEARS MARRIED Yesterday Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Duley, North Clyde, Wairoa, were entertained by the members of their family in celebration of the diamond anniversary bf their marriage. Mrs. Duley was born ill Stokes Valley, Wellington, in 1863, her parents having arrived in. New Zealand by the sailing ship Catherine Stuart Forbeß in IS4I. Mr. Duley, who celebrates his eighty-second birthday on November 10, is a native of Inglewood, Victoria. He came to New Zealand in 1874 and followed the trade bf a carpenter. He has one brother, Mr. James Duley, Nuhaka. After their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Duley took up their residence in Ashhurst, where eight of their nine children were born. For a long time Mr. Duley carried out the erection of sawmills, his total of completed jobs being 57. He is probably the only survivin; member of the old Marton Royal Rifles, and was on guard duty over the Maori prisoners who were brought out of Parehaka pa in 1881 Mr and Mrs. Duley arrived at Wairoa 25 years ago, and have proved themselves very popular citizens. There are eight greatgrandchildren. GOLF SEASON CLOSES As a finale to the 1942 season an all-day fixture figured on the programme for the members of the Poverty Bay Ladies Colt Club on Tuesday. A Stablefprd bogey match, for a trophy donated by Mrs. H. B. Tyerman, engaged the attention of the members in the morning, When Mrs. F. A. McFadyen and Miss M. Newman’tied for first place, the former emerging the winner on the count back. After luncheon, which took place in the clubhouse, the annual driving, approaching and putting competitions were held. The driving was annexed by Mrs. R. Hutchinson, by a narrow margin, from Mrs. O. Solvrinder. Mrs. F. A. McFadyen, with a score of 11, was the winner of the approaching, with Mrs. R. W. J. Edwards, 10, as a very ■close second. The putting was won by Mrs. W. D. Morley after a play-off with Mesdames R. W. J. Edwards, Lunken and P. Smith. Later in the afternoon the trophies won ddrlng the past season were presented .to the successful competitors by the vice-presi-dent, Mrs. R.U. Burke, Following are the awards: —Nolan Vase: Mrs W. D.
