A strong protest to the Government and the Meat Producers’ Board against the proposed transfer by- the Ocean Beach and Kaiapoi' freezing works of part of their > interests therein to any overseas company was made at a representative meeting of Southland farmers to-day. j Complaint- twas made that the farmers had- ? ridt been kept informed of the negotiations, and that Southland or Dominion, interests had not had an opportunity of negotiating as prospective' purchasers. The meeting deputed a committee of four to frame a motion embodying the sentiments expressed at the meeting, and also-authorised it to' contact the Dominions'- ixefcutive of. the Farmers Union ancl -the 1 North Canterbury executive ■ with' a 1 vievvf to a united protest for presentation to the meeting of the Meat Board in Wellington to-morrow.
