Pilot-Officer Keith Anderson in spend in a short leave with It is parents, Mr and Mrs H. Anderson, Upper Gladstone road. Miss M. E. Phelan, assistant at the Wairoa School, has tendered hep resignation to tlie Hawke’s Bay Education Board as< she intends to be married shortly. The resignation came before the meeting of the board in Gisborne last night, when the chairman, Mr. G. A. Maddison, said that as the board was short of teachers the resignation should not be accepted. The board adopted the chairman’s recommendation.

Mr. P. G. Lewis has been appointed senior inspector of schools for the Hawke’s Bay Education Board's district, in succession to the late Mr. J. A. Henry. This was announced at last night’s meeting of the board in Gisborne, when the chairman, Mr. G. A. Maddison, expressed the gratification of the board at the news, which reached the board only last week. It was a reward that was richly deserved. Mr. Lewis was a man of outstanding ability and was extremely conscientious, and .the board was particularly pleased with the appointment. Mr. Lewis had been with the board tor the pagt few years.
