Liberty Loan Broadcasts A series of broadcasts in support of tlie second Liberty Loan will be heard over the Gisborne station 2Z.T during the next fqw weeks. Recommendations have been made to appeal boards by the- Drectof of National Service to grant- postponement of service until‘January 1, 1943, in respect of any stildem intending to sit for the university entrance, examination nisxt December .who has been called in the ballot on an appeal being lodged by him. Reporting to the Hawke's Bay Education Board’s meeting in Gisborne last night that an appeal against military service for Mr. T. F. Pickett, Wairoa, had been adjourned sine die and that the case of Mr. L. E. Schwabe, Patutahi, had been adjourned to January, the secretary, Mr. \V. L. Dunn, stated that appeals had been lodged also for the following:— Mi*. A. O. Edwards, first secondary assistant, Wairoa D.H.S.; Mr. M. H. N. Beuth. assistant, Gisborne Intermediate: Mr O. E. Johnston, head toucher, Te Karaka D.H.S.; and Mf. G. A. Read, assistant, Gisborne Intermediate. Five other teachers in Hawke’s Bay were also being appealed for. Water Loan, Poll
Only five polling booths have been allocated for the £45,000 water loan poll to be taken in Gisborne on Saturday, and in view of past experience with loan proposals this number is expected to be .ample. The- booths, which are at tne Masonic Hall, the Y.M.C.A., Te Hapara School, the Oddfellows’ Hall in Ormond road, and Ovenden’s shop, will be open from 9 a.m. until G p.m., and it is expected that the returning, officer, Mr. W. M. Jenkins, will be able ,to announce the result very shortly afterwards. Ratepayers and freeholders, as well as their wives or. husbands, are eligible to vote. The loan proposals will be explained by the Mayor, Mr. N. H. Bull, at a public meeting to be held in the Holy Trinity Hall to-pight. Training College Students Eighty-nine applications have been received by the Hawke’s Bay Education Board for admission to training college for the year 1943. There were 2G male and 63 female applicants. When reporting this to the board meeting in Gisborne last night, the secretary, Mr. W. L. Dunn, stated that the majority of the male applicants who would be selected would not enter training college next-year, as thev would be either on military service or would be entering on military service shortly. Even those who entered the college next year wbuld be there for only a few months. The Education Department had adJised that the board was entitled to select G 5 students, who would enter the Wellington Training College.
