TWO EXTRA ROOMS
SERVICEMEN'S CLUB EXCELLENT PATRONAGE The servicemen’s club rooms in Lowe street are being enlarged to incorporate two additional rooms in order to extend the valuable work for which the club is catering. It is expected that the rooms ivill be ready for use by the end of the week. Established not long after the outbreak of the war, the club rooms have been filling a great- need among' servicemen visiting or stationed in the district, and the one large social hall has been very well patronised. In addition to the usual amenities, there are two quarter-size billiard tables, a table tennis outfit, writing facilities, radio and gramophone, while refreshments are obtainable at a small charge at any' time. ; ■ The additional accommodation will be used as a rest room and writing room where servicemen are able to seclude themselves from the general activity of the main social hall it" they choose" The additional rooms are now being prepared and furnished.' A small permanent staff is maintained, while volunteer helpers take turns in providing - assistance. Tno revenue secured from the sale of refreshments assists to maintain the institution financially, hut the embus dependent mainly on donations, the greater part of which comes from the sponsor of the original movement Who desires to remain anonymous.
