Patriotic Funds

Sir, —“R.U.V." objects to taking the advice of soldiers’ wives and getting his friends to spare a few pence from their fat pay envelopes. He wants a tax on unimproved values. But this is just how our rates are collected. They are a tax on unimproved values, and a pretty high tax too. Let me suggest a new idea. Our large unions have been collecting £2 12s a year from a huge membership. What about the unions showing their patriotism by each making a straight out donation from their funds. R.U.R.
