ALMOST CERTAIN
WAIROA RACE MEETING DECISION OF CLUB In nit probability there will he a race meeting in Wairoa this season. The annual meeting of the Wairoa Racing Club decided to recommend to the committee that a meeting he arranged and that a programme of eight races instead of seven he considered. January 30 is the date allotted. Mr. A. G. Nolan presided at the meeting, and others present were Messrs. J. R. Gillespie, H. R. Phillips, J. E. Svensen, A. Law, A. J. Anderson, T. F. Byrne, and C. Burridge. There were 100 members’ subscriptions outstanding, said Mr. Nolan. The hon. secretary, Mr. H. L. Harken About 15 more have been received since the annual report was compiled. Mr. Phillips asked if there was any legal claim on members who did not pay last year. If they did not resign before the foe fell due on August 1, they were liable for the .subscription. said the secretary, Tht Hawke’s Bay A. and P. Association was in a similar position. There being no’ further nominations, the president, Mr. A. G. Nolan, vice-presidents, Messrs. \V. H. Brady and ■C. V. Chamberlain, lion, treasurer, Mr. A. J. Anderson, and committee, Messrs. F. T. Byrne, S. Graver, A. J. Devery, JH. R. Phillips and ■F. H. Steed, were re-elected. Messrs. W. A. Crarer and A. H. H. Unwin were re elected auditors, Messrs. T. P. Byrne, J. b. Dunn and F. Hill were elected new members. The secretary said that Mr. 11. deLautour, who was unable to attend, had stressed the necessity of having A race meeting this season. His view was that if it were not held, it might mean the, death knell of the club. Mr. deLautour also suggested that ii the meeting was held on one day, there should be eight races instead of seven. Mr. Nolan said that official notification had been received that the club had been allotted January 30 as the date for its meeting. Mosjt of the horses coming to Wairoa, said Mr. Law, would go on to Gisborne. Following a lengthy discussion it was decided to recommend to the committee that lie 1943 meeting be held and that a pro gramme of eight races be considered.
