NEW ADDITIONS
PARLIAMENT BUILDING PREMIER’S OFFICES WORK NOW COMMENCED (S.R.) WELLINGTON, this day. Work lias commenced on an important addition to Parliament Building to provide a badly-needed extension to the Prime Minister’s office accommodation. The new building is to be on the roofs of the northern part fronting three elevations. In making this announcement, the Hon. D. G. Sullivan, acting-Prime Minister, said that the great expansion of New Zealand's war effort, both in the operative and administrative matters, has .taxed the office accommodation of parliament Housefar beyond its capacity for normal times. Every expedient had been tried to cope with .the problem and the Government had decided to call a halt to alterations and makeshifts, which are more expensive than effective, and to provide new accommodation. Construction will be of light material, harmonising in form and colour with the permanent structure. “I heed scarcely emphasise,” added Mr. Sullivan, “that a vital feature of administrative work in war conditions is its secret and confidential nature. For instance, meetings of the. War Cabinet and War Administration should be held in a place affording the greatest security, and the same conditions apply to the staff.”
