A successful trial was carried , but last night of threguew warning sirens situated in Te Hapara, Victoria Township and Kaiti. . The installation'pf two further sirens is anticipated, one at Whataupoko and Ibe other at Mangapapa, in order to give a complete coverage of the towns. The sirens tested last night were heard over wide areas, but it is fearfed

that on a stormy -day -of" night the whole of the town might not hear the signals, which are 'designed to warn the residents-o'f ; an "occasion of emergency. If the two additional'warn'ing devices are "installed, it is expected that the work will be carried out Within" a week, arid thert a full-scale trial of all five additional sirens, together with the fire siren, which was not operating last -night, will "be staged.
