Death of Maori Soldier

Private Terepu Ruki, reported on Tuesday to be killed in action, was the elder son of Hina Ruki,’ formerly well-known in Gisborne, and a brother of Hina Ruki, jun., Nuhaka. Both sons were born in Gisborne, and Terepu had lived for the past five years with a grand-uncle at Te Kaha, before enlisting last year with the Maori Battalion reinforcements. His father was the son of Ngaruuma King] Ruki, and a grandson of Tuteari Kingi, Te Karaka. His great grandmother, Mrs. Harei Kingi, is a resident of Waihirere and is reputed to be 114 years of age. Though much stooped, she is well able to get about, and made a'* good recovery from a recent illness, having considerable use of her faculties still.
