JAPANESE CHALLENGE BRITAIN AND AMERICA (Reed. Jan. 9, 1.30 p.m.) NEW YORK, Jan. 8. The. Tokio official radio says that Captain Hiraide, the Japanese Navy press chief at Imperial broadcast a challenge to the British and American navies to come out and fight in the Pacific. “The sooner the better for Japan because such a battle would end the struggle immediately,” he said. Captain Hiraide claimed that the Japanese navy is now carrying out operations over the entire Pacific from the west coast of the United States to the Indian Ocean and from the Aleutian Islands to the Antipodes.
