TRIUMPHANT PROGRESS MAJOR-GEN. FREYBERG CHRISTCHURCH VISIT (Per Press Association,) CHRISTCHURCH, this day. , Not since Royalty was last received in Christchurch Has the city been more wholO-hearted in its Welcome to a visitor than to-day, when MajorGeneral B. C. Froyberg, commanding the Second New Zealand Expeditionary Force, arrived for a stay of one day. From the cheering artillerymen at the Heads as the Rangatira steamed up the harbour,-, the welcome on the wharf at Lyttettcfrr, the civic.reception in Cathedral Square,- afid the enthusiasm of the troops at Burhbam it was a triumphal progress, emphasising the universal approval of the choice of the great soldier who is to lead the New Zealand troops overseas. When Major-GeneraL Freyberg stepped on to the balcony with the Mayor, Mr. R. M. Macfarlane, M.P., there was a.bjjrst of cheering, but it was nothing to’ the full-throated roar of more than 3000 throats when the speeches were over. As he came out to his car the crowd surged forward and he passed through a narrow lane to his car, driving off to another burst of cheermg.
