The Daily Herald says: "Sympathy will go out , from all over , the world to the Turkish people who suifered more casualties in a few initiates than have occurred in three months on the Western Front’’ The . Manchester Guardian, finds gome cpirjfort. in the .knowledge that, in the modern well-organised Turkey all possible help will be quickly brought to the sufferers. Messages of sympathy have been sent by the King and the Prime Minister, Mr. Neville Chamberlain, iu Ankara.

A message sent to the President of the Turkish republic .by the King stated: “I was deeply shocked by the nqws of the calamitous earthquake which inflicted so much sorrow amsuffering upon the Turkish people and I would ask you to accept my assurance of the profound sympathy tnai is felt by my people at the widespread distress which this disaster has caused through so great a loss of life and property.” The following message was sent to the Turkish Prime Minister by Mr. Chamberlain: "The report of tire disastrous earthquake in Anatolia has filled me with horror and I have been much distressed to hear ol' the large death roll. I hasten to assure Y’our Excellency of my sympathy with the Turkish' people and .especially with those who are suffering personally as a result of this, tragedy.”
