Morrinsville Wedding
Hughes—o ’Brien (<isborne Bridegroom St. Joheph’s Church, Morrinsville, was the -scene of a pretty wedding on Saturday, November 11, when Phyllis Mary O'Brien, niece of Mr ; and Mrs. J H. Mellars, of Morrinsville, was married to Robert James Hughes, of Auckland, only son of Mrs. D. Hughes, of Gisborne, and the late Mr. A. J. Hughes. The altar had been beautifully decorated for the occasion, by the Sisters of the Mission. The Rev. Father O'Doherty performed the ceremony and celebrated -the nuptial mass. Members of the Sodality of the Children of Mary, of which the bridehad been a member, were also present, and sang the ‘‘Ave Maria” during the mass and afterwards formed a guard of honour as the bride and bridegroom left the church. The bride, who was given away by her uncle, Mr. J. H. Mellars, wore a beautiful frock of ivory satin featuring a shirred bodice with a heartshaped neckline which was finished with a spray of orange blossom. The beautiful tulle veil was held in place by a halo headdress of orange blossom and clusters of pearls, and the bouquet consisted of while roses, carnations, lily of the valley and maidenhair and asparagus fern. Bridesmaid in Marina Blue The bride was attended by Miss Myra Kemble, Auckland, as ciiief bridesmaid. Tier frock was of Marina blue taffetas, made with a very full skirt, and tight-fitting bodice which featured the heart-sh iperi neckline. She wore a shoulder-length veil ol Marina blue stiffened net, held in place by a topknot of natural (lowers, and her bouquet consisted of roses, ranunculus and marigolds in the same gold tonings The -mad bridesmaid, Miss Stelia Kelly, Morrinsville, wore a frock of peach-pink taffeta fashioned on similar lines to that of the chief bridesmaid. 'She wore a poke bonnet of the same shade of pink taffeta, trimmed with pink rosebuds an t ribbons, and her posy was of pink rosebuds and blue delphiniums. Mr. Pat Gavin, Auckland, attended the bridegroom as best man. After the ceremony a reception was held at Burmesters’ Reception Rcoms. The guests were received by the bride’s aunt, Mrs. J. H. Mellars, who wore a frock of crepe de soie in a tloral pattern. Mrs. D. Hughes, mother ol the bridegroom, were an ensemble of Burgundy cloque. When the newly-married couple left on their honeymoon the bride was wearing a teal blue outfit and furs with navy hat and accessories. Mr. and Mrs. R. J. Hughes will make their homo in Auckland.
