ADMIRALTY’S RUSE

HOW SHIP WAS TRACED OIL VESSEL SHADOWED LONDON, Dec. 22. Brazilian newspapers assert that a British-owned oil company in Brazil was largely responsible for the trapping of tlie Graf von Spee. The company received an order for an unusually large quantity of oil. which, it suspected, was intended for a German merchant ship then in port. The company informed the British Admiralty, which instructed it to supply the oil. Having taken aboard the oil the German vessel slipped from port, the captain not knowing it was being shadowed. Its course gave an accurate indication of the whereabouts of the Graf von Spee, which was located and attacked by the cruisers Exeter, Ajax and Achilles.
