HOLIDAY TOURISTS
MOTOR CAMP VISITORS MORE EXPECTED LATER In the past two days there has been a lot of movement in the unpacking and packing of camping equipment at the Waikanae Beach motor camp. There were 70 parties under canvas in the grounds last night, 18 arriving on Wednesday and 20 yesterday. Seventeen of the 18 who arrived on Wednesday were so pleased with the surroundings of the camp and the shelter provided that they decided to stay an additional night. The majority of them left this morning. During the week-end and later large crowds are expected to be arriving at the camp from the Coast scenic highway. When making a tour of the Coast, yesterday the resident A.A. patrol, Mr. G. V. Merton, said that there were large numbers of tourists on the road who were making south. At present they were encamped on some of the delightful foreshores of the bays between and in the vicinity of Waihau Bay and Te Kaha. The cold snap of the past week has made an appreciable difference in the number of bathers using the facilities at the Waikanae Beach, but it is understood that good use has been made by campers of the hot showers that have been installed at the rear of the bathing pavilion. With the rising temperatures it is expected that the beach will return to favour.
