CONDITION OF ROADS
HOLIDAY INFORMATION A.A. PATRQL'S REPORT The majority of inquiries concerning the condition of highways refer to the Gisborne-Opotiki, via Cape Runaway, scenic highway, according to the resident A.A. patrol, Mr G. V. Merlon, in his .report this morning. The upper section of the Coast escaped the recent storm and subsequent wet weather, and the roads were in splendid condition. The surfaces of all roads were good. To-day’s report is as follows: Gisborne-Opotiki, via Waioeka.— Good order; streams low. Gisborne-Opotiki, via Motu.—Winding and hilly road with splendid scenic views; if foggy or overcast at Matawai not worth while from a scenic point of view.
Gisborne-Opotiki, via Cape Runaway.—Highway in good order for Christmas traffic; stream crossings easy at present, and no trouble expected unless heavy rain sets in on the Bay of Plenty side of the Cape; loose metal for quarter of a mile at Tokomaru Bay. '|-J Gisborne-JVairoa, via Tiniroto.— Good order.
Gisborne-Wairoa, via Morere.—Good order. Wairoa-Waikaremoana-Rotorua. Surface improving beyond Waikaremoana; rough surface around lake section; streams still to be negotiated and slips to be expected in wet weather; repair gang on duty during holidays.
