Mr. Walter Pate selector of the United States Davis Cup tennis team, said it was doubtful whether any international tennis would be played in 1940. “The .United States certainly will not challenge Australia l'cr the Davis Cup,” lie said. “The only sporting thing to do is to wait until the end of the war and give the Australians time to prepare a sound defence.’’
