Dublin was ringed with steel from dawn as the military tightened the cordon in order to ascertain the whereabouts of the 1,000,000 rounds of ammunition stolen on Saturday by supporters of the Irish Republican Army. Armoured cars patrolled the roads and troops examined every passing vehicle. They found a ton of the missing ammunition hidden at Wicklow’. From there the search extended to Kildare, Carlow’ and Kilkenny, while Government agents investigated suspected houses in Dublin. Nine members of the magazine guards were detained pending the conclusion of the inquiry. Five suspects have been remanded in connection with the raid.

A drive against supporters of the Republican Army has been launched in Belfast, but no arrests have been made.
