TAUPATA REFLOATED

TORY CHANNEL MISHAP STRANDED ON BEACH CAUGHT BY TIDAL SET (Tor Press Association.) BLENHEIM, this day. The motor ship Taupata, which grounded near Te Awaiti early yesterday morning while en route to Lyttelton, berthed at Picton about 2 o’clock in the afternoon. The vessel had been sheltering from high, seas overnight in Queen Charlotte Sound. When the mishap occurred she was about to run through Tory Channel to resume her passage. Apparently she was caught in a strong tidal set. Before anything could be done she was swept on to the beach. At high tide she was refloated. As the extent of the damage was not known, it was decided to bring her to Picton for inspection. Yesterday afternoon was devoted to unloading the general cargo, to enable a survey of the hull to be made. The Taupata bears no outward sign of injury and is without a list.
