FAREWELL SOCIAL
WAERENGA-A-HIKA DANCE CHEQUES PRESENTED (Herald Correspondent.) Land, sen and air units were represented in Waerenga-a-hika when residents of the district farewelled six local members of the First Echelon, who were home on final leave. They were Messrs. Roy Nickerson. Allan Barrow, William Lister, Errol Grey. Egbert Topp and Ray Richardson. Music for dancing was played by Miss G. Gooch, while extras were played by Messrs. Robb and Grayson, and -Mr. Davidson, bagpipes. The M.C. was Mr. D. Gooch. Items were contributed by Miss Huston and Mrs. Robb, songs, Mrs. Morton, recitation, and Mr. li. Davidson, bagpipes. A farewell to the guests of honour was tendered by Mr. H. J. Lougher, who said he had performed a similar duty at functions during the Great War. On behalf of the residents he expressed pleasure at the noble attitude of the volunteers and wished them all the best of luck and a safe return. Each man was presented with a cheque as a small token of the esteem of the residents.
The Rev. R. C. Aires fully endorsed the remarks of the previous speaker, and expressed the hope that the troops would all be given a good welcome on their return.
