PLAY IN HAMILTON POVERTY BAY’S LOSS (Special to the Herald.) HAMILTON, this day. In the first day’s play yesterday in Hamilton of the provincial cricket tournament, the Poverty Bay representative eleven was defeated outright by Waikato. However, it will "be remembered that both elevens will be slightly changed when they meet for that .fixture. The finish in the Waikato-Poverty Bay fixture was exciting. In their-first innings Poverty 'Bay were dismissed for the small total of 72 runs, -but they made better use of their time at the wicket on their second appearance, scoring 122 runs. Waikato’s first innings score was 161, and they were able to secure the necessary 34 runs in the second innings for the loss of only four wickets. The other match resulted in a win for Auckland on the first innings over Auckland City and Suburban. The points at the completion of yesterday’s play were: Waikato, 4; Auckland, 3; Auckland City and Suburban, 1; and Poverty Bay, 0.
