MINISTER TO U.S.

AUSTRALIAN INTERESTS •‘A LOGICAL STEP” (Reed. Dec. 20, 11.30 a.m.) MELBOURNE, Dee. 25. The appointment of Mr. R. G. Casey, the Federal Minister of Supply, as Australian Minister to the United States is expected this week. A New York message states that the New York Times has given prominence to the Melbourne report of the impending appointment of Mr. Casey. Because officials are on holiday, the State Department comment is not available, but the Washington correspondent of the New York Times states that the appointment would occasion no surprise. “As Australia is the largest British dominion not represented, and in view of the increasing Australian-American commercial and other relations, the appointment is viewed in Washington a > a logical step.” the correspondent states.
