VISITORS TO CAMP
HOLIDAY MOTORISTS 52 ARRIVED YESTERDAY Fifty-two visitors entered the motor camp at the Waikanae Beach yesterday and pitched their tents for stays of various intervals up to a week Several of the motorists had come to Gisborne over the East Coast scenic highway, via Cape Runaway, and many others who were travelling in a northerly direction have intimated that they will be making the trip around the Coast to Opotiki. There were 55 parties of campers in the grounds last night and the holiday spirit was uppermost. Visitors were complimentary in their references to the improved facilities at the Waikanae Beach and said that the camp compared more than favourably with many otheh public camps in the North Island. Before December 16 there had been 229 visitors in the camping area at the Waikanad Beach, and since that date 208 had passed through, making a total of 437.
During the Christmas week-end large crowds flocked to the beach to enjoy bathing and sun-bathing. Many visited the beach for a short period during the day, but several picnicked on the sands.
