FORCED DOWN IN SEA

BRITISH AIR LINER SIX PERSONS RESCUED (Reed. Dec. 26, 9 a.m.) LONDON, Dec. 23. A British warship led a search over the Mediterranean for an overdue British Lockheed air-liner which came down in the sea on a flight from Solium, Egypt, to Malta. Subsequently, three. passengers and three members of the crew of the airliner were landed at Malta after having been picked up by a French steamer at Saint Georges near Sicily. A message from Malta says that the survivors paid a tribute to the captain for skilfully manoeuvring the plane in the direction of a sailing boat, but the wind was unfavourable. Thus the boat was too late to save the three other passengers and two members of the crew who were drownedThe boat transferred survivors to the St. Georges.
