NAZI INTRIGUE

SOVIET PACT OPPOSED GERMAN INDUSTRIALISTS ALLOYS JN ARMAMENTS REFUGEES DISCLOSURES (Flee. Tel. Copyright—United Press Assn.) (Reed. Dec. 2G, 9 a.m.) ZURICH, Dec. 22. The former German, industrial leader, Herr Thyssen, who fled from Germany, in an interview, said he spent 62,000,000 Reichmarks in 12 years for the support and upkeep of the Nazi Party. He revealed that before the Nazi Foreign Minister, Herr von Ribbentrop, went to Moscow, the Government held a conference of industrial heads at which Herr Thyssen strongly protested against the pact with Russia. The industrialists had not been informed of the Government's inten- i tions. Herr Thyssen’s family, totalling 30, decided to flee immediately. Herr Thyssen added that the extreme shortage of German raw materials was more serious than was admitted. The production figures were largely bluff. The German Army Command was not aware that alloys instead of steel were being used in the production of armaments. Substitutes were frequently used where steel was essential.
