MOTU NEWS

PARTY FOR BRIDE-TO-BE (Herald Correspondent.) Miss Sheila Twisleton was the guest of honour at a party arranged by Mrs. G. Begg and held in the Women’s Institute room. Motu, recently. Miss Twisleton’s marriage to Mr. G. Phillips will take place early in the new year, and she was the recipient of a wonderful variety of gifts, which were presented to her during the afternoon.

The room was tastefully decorated with tall vases of Iceland poppies and bowls of gweet peas. Two cleverly arranged competitions and social chatter kept the guests happily entertained, and a delicious tea was served by the hostess, who wore a frock of brown spotted marocain. A smart frock of mustard ripple crepe trimmed with brown buttons was worn by Miss Twisleton, who was assisted in the opening of her parcels by her two sisters, Misses Peggy and Joan Twisleton.

Amongst those present were Mesdames H. L. Twisleton, N. G. Nisbett, F. J. Read, W. J. Reed, G. T. Hutchins, A E. Legge, T. Jackson. B. Currie. A. R. Pierce*, H. C. Boys, A. W. Thomson, J. Bartie, J. R. Donaldson, LI, Bulst, R. Mortleman, W. Stewart, W. A. Wright, F. W. Peddle, F. S. Fisher and A. C. Stratford; Misses B. and M. Fisher, J. and D. Boys, and M. Jackson. During the afternoon Mrs. H. C. Boys, president ol' St. Paul’s Ladies’ Build, took the opportunity of presenting a gift of a dainty cup and saucer to Miss Twisleton, who had been an enthusiastic helper in all the guild activities. Mrs. Boys wished Miss Twisleton every happiness in her future life, and said how very much she would be missed. Miss Twisleton replied briefly and also thanked Mrs. Begg for the delightful party she had arranged, and all the guests for the wonderful array of gifts.

Mr. and Mrs. F. J. Read and IvPss Pam. Read are visiting relatives on the flats for the Christmas holidays.—Mr. and Mrs. W. Kohn and Mr. and Mrs. F. H. Bull, Gisborne, were the week-end guests of Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Wright. —The Misses Betty and Peggy Hutchins, Auckland, are spending the holidays with their parents. Mr. and Mrs. G. T. Hutchins, Motu. Mrs. M. Lovell, Opotiki, is the guest of her daughter, Mrs. J. R'. Donaldson, Motu. —Miss Mary Fisher has left on a brief visit to Wanganui and Wellington.—Mr. J. Kane, a member of the air force, is the guest of his cousin. Mr. J. Bartie, Waitangirua.
