Dr. Hugh C. Petherick, of Napier Hospital, has been appointed medical officer at the Chatham Islands for the period January-June, 1940. Members of the staff of the Native Department in Wanganui and a number of friends recently farewelled at ham. Mr. Fordham, who has been an officer of the Native Department for 29 years and registrar of the Native Land Court, Wellington, since 1920, has been promoted to the position of registrar of the Native Land Court in Rotorua. Lieutenant- Colonel W. Ivory, formerly of the Royal New Zealand Artillery, has been released for service with the British Government. He is attached to the staff of the Chief Inspector of Armaments, and will go to America and Canada in connection wdth the inspection of munitions bought by Great Britain. Lieutenant-Colonel Ivory was for 11 years inspecting ordnance and mechanical engineer for the New Zealand Forces. For 17 months he was also officer commanding the coast defences, Auckland.
