WHOLESALE CLEAN-UP LICENSES REFUSED OVER 250 APPLICATIONS PART-TIME MEN BARRED (Special to the Herald.) WELLINGTON, this day. The decision of the Bureau of Industries in declining over 250 applications from all parts of the Dominion for industrial fishing licenses is announced. This represents a wholesale cleaning up of the industry in the interests of those regularly engaged in fishing, protecting them from the competition pf part-time fishermen, whose applications have been refused. <lt has long been a cause of complaint that the livelihood of regular fishermen is prejudiced by persons who sell occasional week-end catches at the market or on the beaches. The Bureau of Industries has licensed over .1400 full-time fishermen and also a number of part-time applicants who provide New Zealand’s sea fish supplies.
